Post 10: When Wisdom Talks, It’s Smart To Listen

Proverbs 1:24–33

This passage gently encourages us to embrace resilience and hope, reminding us that we are not alone in our struggles. Wisdom offers a vision of a future filled with promise. Even in our deepest moments of distress and anguish, wisdom is there, providing support and uplifting our weary spirits. She invites us to seek her presence. We discover the strength that resides within us, reassuring us that it is okay to feel lost at times.

This is not a portrayal of a distant God who ignores our suffering, but rather a loving God who compassionately reaches out, inviting us to connect, to grow, and to find our way forward, no matter how isolated we might feel. Don’t neglect wisdom

However, verses 24–25 remind us: “I called, and you refused; I stretched out my hand, and no one paid attention. You neglected all my counsel and did not want my reproof.” The calm in the storm encourages us to see the choices that brought us here. When we choose to accept wisdom, we improve our ability to hear its voice more clearly next time. The laugh of Wisdom is not mockery; it represents the growth and understanding we gain from warnings, leading us toward a better future.

Solomon does not leave us in difficult times. Verse 33 delivers a hopeful promise: “But he who listens to me shall live securely and will be at ease from the dread of evil.” Imagine security, ease, and freedom from fear!

Fear has always been my nemesis, so this resonates greatly with me.

However, this does not guarantee a perfect life or protect us from obstacles. But building our lives on wisdom offers a deep and lasting peace. This is the climax that the entire chapter has been leading to.

Reflect: As you look back over Proverbs 1, what is the one thing Wisdom has been saying that you most need to carry into this week?

Pray: Lord, thank You for a wisdom that calls out loudly, that warns honestly, and that promises peace to those who listen. I don’t want to be someone who hears and walks away unchanged. Let Your Word take root in me today — deep enough to hold when the storms come. I choose to listen. Amen.
