I was reading something the other day that really got me to thinking about the attributes of God, one in particular, his omnipresence.

Omnipresence means God is always present, everywhere, at the same time. He surrounds me as I type and he surrounds you as you read. That doesn’t mean he resides in each of us because he is present with each us, however. That requires an invitation on our part.

Here are a few verses to support this.

Omniscience means God is everywhere. Let me repeat

God is everywhere.

So is there anywhere God is not? 

No. No, NO!

But what does that mean exactly? What does that mean to you, to me, as we walk through our day?

First, let’s settle something.

God created all living and non-living (think rocks 🙂 ) beings. In addition to mankind, he created nature, animals;  all were created by his touch. But does he live in each of his creations?

God does not exist in flowers or trees, etc, although he certainly reveals himself through nature.  God does not exist in animals rocks, or in any inanimate object. They can certainly remind us of God, however. And certainly, God can use any part of his creation to work in our lives. I’ve often felt God delivering a message to me through nature.

When the snow blankets the ground I am reminded that God can wash my sins away as white as now.

When I see my flowers or watch birds play, I am reminded that God cares for them, but so much more for me.

God did not pursue a relationship in the garden with everything he created, only “man”.

To believe God exists and resides in nature is called Pantheism and the Bible absolutely does not teach Pantheism. Here’s a link if you want to check out the definition of Pantheism.

I put this post aside and decided to take my walk. It was kind of foggy out. I concentrated on the fact that with every breath I took, I was “breathing in God”. I had an image pop in my head that I want to share it with you.

As I walked, I imagined myself in space looking down at this giant ball we call “earth”. I envisioned  our world enveloped in a kind of misty fog that represented God’s presence. That image gave me a new understanding of God’s omnipresence.

We all say things like “God is everywhere” but do you think most Christians live as though they believe that? I mean do you think that if Christians really, I mean really, grasped this concept, they would continue to do the things they do, use the words they do?

Would I? Would you?

Of course not.

We say we believe in God’s omnipresence but we live as though we don’t.  

This morning, before that walk,  I had prayed, “You know what, Lord? I think you’re about to show me something.

My walk in the fog was that revelation. Because of the picture I painted in my head, I now have a more vivid concept of God’s omnipresence. Truly, God is with us everywhere.

Now I need to make sure I live my life in accordance with that principle.
