How to decorate on the cheap and other things.

I follow a number of decorating blogs. Here are some of my favorites. I’m sure they will be familiar to many of you but if not check them out. These bloggers are extremely talented with lots of good ideas and decorating tips. These particular bloggers are very good at suggesting ways to decorate inexpensively, sometimes cheaply.

I particularly like the idea of “shopping” one’s own house. It’s amazing how we can change the feel of our homes by moving items from one room to another. This is something I’m learning to do more and more. Of course, painting an item a different color can make it seem new. And almost anything can be repainted. These are the blogs I particularly like.

But I want to focus on the last one. I feel her blog has the most decorating tips of any blog I follow. I had wondered why I hadn’t seen many posts from her over a period of weeks. I had been busy so I thought I had just missed them. Finally, I decided to check it out. It took me a while to find the post that explained everything.

This blogger has been very ill, life or death kind of ill. It’s been going for months and I had no idea. It sounds like she’s on the mend and I’m so glad to hear that. The point I’m making is we don’t always know what is happening behind the scenes behind those beautiful blog posts.

I read something wonderful the other day, “Never compare your imperfect real life to that “perfect” life that is represented on social media.”

Isn’t that great?

And isn’t it true?

I mean haven’t you done that? We see the happy, smiling faces (I mean, would anyone take a picture of a sad, unhappy face?) and we immediately assume their entire life is perfect.

Or, if you don’t do that, you do what I do and you wonder how they could get that much done in one day.”

And then, sometimes it’s, “How do they have enough money to keep redecorating their homes?

I hope no one thinks that about me so maybe what this post is about. I am a flesh and blood real person with real issues. Like the hubby who was in the Emergency Room a few weeks ago. My grandson who got bit by a dog. My feet issues which, when they act up, seriously impact my life. And not in a good way.

My extreme laziness some days. My lack of faith at times.

I could go on.

So I don’t know if this post is meant to give you a heads-up about me or just to remind you that things are not always as they seem. And especially on some of social media.

Some bloggers seem to be living ten lives all at once. Personally, I don’t believe we can have it all. Something always has to give. Something or someone suffers somewhere.

So when I run across these blogs, my antenna goes up and I say, “Wait a minute.” Something is being sacrificed:

Relationships with family.

Relationship with friends.

Relationship with ourselves.

Relationship with God.

So the next time you compare yourself to someone else, just remember:

Things are not always as they appear to be.

For me, I work hard on my blog and when I do, other things get put on the back burner. It’s about choices. But I’m smart enough to know that every choice I make to do something is a choice I make NOT to do something else.

Anyway, hope this helps.

God bless and I hope you have a good day.
