When God frees us, are there restraints?

When God frees us, it’s in many ways.

Freedom from sin

When God frees us it’s because we have come to a place in our life where we realize that we are still in a prison of sorts. For me, that prison was one of people-pleasing and always worried I might hurt someone’s feelings. It was the root cause of depression at that time. It’s the root cause of many Christians depression and anxiety. We think that honesty is somewhat unchristian and yet Jesus himself was always honest. And yet loving. Right?

Is people-pleasing a sin?

I think for me, it was, because it got in the way at times from me pursuing God’s purpose for my life.

But God is loving and kind, He’s always ready to forgive us. When we admit we’ve messed up and come to God with a sorry heart, He forgives us and takes the weight of our wrongdoing off our shoulders. While people-pleasing if not a wrongdoing as we might describe wrongdoing, if it gets in the way of our relationship with God, perhaps it is.

Hitting the reset button

God’s forgiveness though helps us to look at ourselves and see where we’ve messed up. When we admit those areas and ask for His forgiveness, it’s like hitting the reset button on our relationship with Him.

After we align ourselves with God’s truth and embrace our identity as His children, we can overcome feelings of inadequacy and walk in the freedom and confidence that comes from knowing we are loved and valued by God. Furthermore, God frees us from ourselves. And isn’t that where so many of us need freedom, from ourselves?

Lastly, God frees us from the fear of death. Through Jesus’ resurrection, He conquered sin and death, offering us eternal life. When we place our faith in Jesus, we have the assurance of spending eternity with Him in heaven.

We have a hawk that lives in a tree in our yard. He is huge. When he flies, his wing span is enormous. I love it when he soars by our window and am reminded how we can soar in Christ. God frees us to fly like this hawk.

When God frees us, we can say goodby to fear and anxiety.

In the Bible, God assures us that He is with us always and encourages us to cast all our worries and fears upon Him. By placing our trust in God, we can find peace and freedom from the worries that weigh us down.

It’s by completely trusting and believing in the teachings of the Bible that we can find comfort when things get tough. Knowing that God is with us and will support us gives us the strength to face life’s challenges with courage. When we follow the guidance in God’s word, we can feel a deep sense of peace and assurance, knowing that we’re not alone in our struggles. Belief in God transforms our thinking and knowing His word eases our fears and worries.

When God frees us, it’s to find our purpose

God has a unique purpose for each one of us. My third book, “More,” addresses this in depth. Perhaps I should’ve written the book I’m writing now, FREE, first. Some might argue that in order to find God’s purpose for our lives, we need to be free beforehand. But I know from my own personal experience, that God doesn’t work in all peoples lives on the same schedule. Any thorough study of scripture proves that.

Freedom brings responsibility

God doesn’t free us to live however we want, but to live however HE wants.

Tomorrow I hope to share my own personal story about a freeing incident in my life

Concluding

I found this poem by an unknown author, tweaked it, deleted all but first two verses, and added my own. The title is mine.

When God Frees Us

In the depths of darkness, burdened by shame,
My heart weighed down with remorse and blame.
I was lost and broken, no hope in sight,
Yearning for freedom, craving for light.

Then came a whisper, soft as a breeze,
A voice of love that put my soul at ease.
No longer held captive by chains of despair,
His grace and love, I now want to share.
For in His mercy, I discovered the key,
So now that I'm free, what does that mean?
Does it mean there are no rules to obey?
Or maybe it means there's a better way.

Because mercy received means mercy given,
Freedom received means freedom given,
While freedom plants us in a wide space
It doesn't mean we have won the race.

I lose my right to go wherever I lean
While ignoring those who still live in pain.
Do I reach out with kindness and grace
Knowing I was once in their prison-like place?

For in His mercy, I discovered the key,
So now that I'm free, what does that mean?
Does it mean there are no rules to obey?
Or maybe it means there's a better way.

Because mercy received means mercy given,
Because freedom received means freedom given,
While freedom plants us in a wide space
It doesn't mean we have won the race.

I lose my right to go wherever I lean
While ignoring those who still live in pain.
Do I reach out with kindness and grace
Knowing I was once in their prison-like place?
Freedom is freedom but only so far,
It is never meant to hurt or scar.
Freedom is freedom to only a degree,
Freedom misused is freedom unfreed.
It's mean to lift up and never destroy,
It demands our mercy so we can rejoice
When others decide to walk freedom's road,
We smile, knowing they've cast off their load.

So let freedom ring its voice loud and clear,
Freedom is for all who hold Christ dear.
Freedom demands our love and grace,
So we can all finish our faith-filled race.

God bless and have a great day.
