How to rest in Christ while not relaxing our spiritual side.
How do we rest in Christ while not relaxing the spiritual side of ourselves? The concepts appear to conflict with each other. But they don’t. Feeling disconnected from God can be a common and challenging experience for many people. Here are some suggestions to help you reconnect with your spiritual connection:
Prayer and Meditation
Set aside time each day to pray and meditate. This practice can help you quiet your mind and create a deeper connection with God. These moments of reflection and spiritual contemplation invite peace into your life.

Whether you choose to sit in silence or pray, these practices allow you to listen. You hear the Holy Spirit’s voice guiding you. Additionally, regularly engaging in prayer and meditation can enhances your emotional well-being. It strengthens your faith, and deepens your understanding of your life’s purpose.
When we know and pursue the purpose God has given to each of us, we find true rest. When we don’t fulfill our divine purpose, we feel at odds with ourselves and with God.
Read Spiritual Texts:
Spend time reading your favorite scriptures. Read other spiritual books as well. They can offer profound wisdom and guidance for your life’s journey. Many present-day authors provide valuable insights into various aspects of spirituality and personal growth. Dallas Willard is one of my favorites due to his understanding of spiritual formation and discipleship. In addition, I find the works of A.W. Tozer, Charles Spurgeon, Frank Laubach, and Oswald Chambers to be incredibly enriching. Each author brings a unique perspective.
Reading these texts deepens your understanding of spiritual principles and encourages contemplation and reflection. You can apply these insights to your daily life. Whether through sermons, or books, these writings can inspire you.
Attend Religious Services:
Participating in religious services or gatherings provides a sense of community and support in our spiritual journey. We rest and we are revived. These gatherings offer a nurturing environment. It’s a place where we connect with others who share similar beliefs and values, and create a sense of belonging. Regular attendance at these services enriches our spiritual practice. It is good to worship with fellow believers and we often feel better as a result.
Seek Guidance:
Consider seeking guidance from a spiritual leader, mentor, or counselor. They can provide support and help you explore your feelings. These individuals possess valuable insights and experiences that can help. They, too, because of their occupation, experience feelings of disconnectedness. They can offer a listening ear and constructive advice based on their Biblical knowledge and their personal experience. Engaging in open dialogue with someone who understands the complexities of emotional turmoil can reassure us we are not alone.
Practice Gratitude:
Take time to reflect on the blessings in your life and practice gratitude daily. Recognizing the goodness around you can help you feel more connected to God. It opens your heart to appreciate the beauty of creation and the love that surrounds you. Embrace gratitude as an essential part of your spiritual journey, allowing it to transform your perspective. It’s hard to feel distant when you’re feeling grateful.
Serve Others:

Engaging in acts of service and kindness helps you feel closer to God. When you dedicate your time and energy to assist those in need, it encourages you as well. It can take a variety of forms. These actions not only encourage others but also nourish your spiritual growth. Also, when you share that love with others through acts of kindness, you feel more connected with God. Furthermore, as you experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from serving others, you may find that your faith is strengthened.
Connect with Nature:

Spending time in nature can be a powerful way to connect with a higher power and feel a sense of awe and wonder. I immediately relax when I walk on the beach or in the woods. Most everyone feels the presence of a higher power; for me, it’s God, when they immerse themselves in nature.
Being in nature soothes our souls because we feel a deep connection with the creator of it all.
Remember that feeling disconnected from God is a normal part of the spiritual journey. And it’s okay to have periods of doubt or questioning. Be patient and gentle with yourself as you work towards rekindling your spiritual connection.
God bless.
