Praying and waiting for good news

We are praying and waiting today for good news. I am asking for your prayers today for our son. His name is Mark.

He is having heart surgery today. In the past, this particular heart problem required open-heart surgery, but a new procedure has been developed, and they can avoid that.

It’s still a very major surgery requiring about four hours to complete.

Waiting is making me anxious

When one of your children is facing something this major, you can’t help but think back to when they were a child. He was a handful, not in a bad way but in a typical little boy way. He was one of those extremely active little boys, and he has not changed one iota, and is always on the go. This is going to be hard on him.

He struggled in school. However, guess what his profession is? He is a school superintendent! He’s a good one, too, because he remembers his own struggles.

He is an avid fisherman and is looking forward to putting all this behind him so he can “fish his brains out,” his words. Another surgery is scheduled in a month, although that one is not as serious.

Praying for everyone.

I’ve been praying for the doctors, nurses, and everyone who will be taking care of him, that they are at the top of their game. Praying for no complications and a quick recovery. I’ve even prayed for the operating room that it will be as clean as it can be. I’ve prayed for gentle hands and caring personnel to attend to him as he recovers.

This is my first go-around with either of my children facing something this serious. How my heart goes out to parents who go through this all the time. I can’t even imagine.

This will be a long day. Knowing that many of you are praying will make the day seem not so long. By the way, did I tell you I was a hospital chaplain for a number of years? That helps. I am familiar with hospital procedures, etc. And I might add I’m not afraid to speak up! That can be good or bad, depending on who you are.

Thank you very much, and God bless.
