Hearing the Right Voice

I wanted to add a little more about the Holy Spirit. I’ve been considering the last post I wrote and realize that I’m not very good myself at recognizing the Holy Spirit’s voice. However, I want to be.

Romans 8:1 — “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

The following statements is so important:

Every believer hears two voices. One calls you by name; the other calls you by your shame. One draws you close; the other pushes you away. One exposes sin to heal you; the other exposes sin to destroy you.

The Holy Spirit’s conviction is a gift. His voice is clear, specific, and full of hope. Even when He points out sin, He does so with the promise of forgiveness and the power to change.

The enemy’s conviction is different. It’s condemnation. It feels vague, heavy, and suffocating. It whispers that you are your failure, that God is tired of you, that you’ll never change. Furthermore, Scripture unmasks this voice. Satan is the accuser.

The Holy Spirit

Pause today and listen. Which voice is shaping your thoughts and guiding your emotions? Which voice is influencing your decisions?

The Spirit will always lead you toward Jesus — toward repentance, and deliverance. Condemnation will always lead you away from Him.

Prayer: “Holy Spirit, help me recognize Your voice above all others. Silence every lie of condemnation, and lead me into the freedom and peace that come from walking with You. Amen.”

A. Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Voice

  • When has the Holy Spirit convicted you in a way that brought peace or clarity

B. Recognizing Condemnation

  • What lies or accusations tend to hit you the hardest
  • How do those thoughts affect your relationship with God

C. Discernment in Real Life

  • Can you tell the difference between conviction and condemnation in the moment? How?
  • Which discernment tool (content, fruit, outcome, alignment) helps you most?

D. Moving Toward Freedom

  • What truth from Scripture do you need to hold onto when condemnation hits
  • How can the group pray for you in this area

Practical Application

  1. Identify one area this week where you will intentionally pause and ask: “Is this voice leading me toward God or away from Him?”
  2. Choose one Scripture to speak over yourself when condemnation comes.
  3. Practice replacing condemning thoughts with truth by saying aloud: “This is not the voice of my Father.”
  4. Share with someone you trust how you’re learning to discern the difference — accountability strengthens clarity.
