How to live out Philippians 2:3

Do nothing our of selfish ambition

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Philippians 2:3    My translation is:

“Don’t use people because of what they can do for you. Never “do” for anyone expecting them to return the favor. Don’t think you’re better than anyone else. Don’t always put yourself and your own interest first. Be prepared to give up some of your time to help others accomplish what they want to accomplish. Look for ways to be sacrificial with your time, talent, and resources. ”

It’s not easy to live out this verse. It’s hard to put ourselves in second place when there is so much we want to do and accomplish. No one likes to give up what precious time they have. And yet that is exactly what we are told to do in this verse.

I have a really hard time with this myself.  There’s so much I enjoy doing and so much I need to do that when my time is interrupted, I almost always have to have a frank discussion with myself.

I hope I’m not the only one. 🙂

God bless and have a good day.
