A great movie. No, wait. Two.

I don’t think I’ve ever posted a movie review before. Probably because the pickin’s been slim.

But over the past couple of months, after a long dry spell, my husband and I saw two movies.

The first was “The Green Book”. It’s funny and sad and offers new information about the south and race relations in the fifties.

I certainly had no idea that there was a book called “The Green Book”. It was published so black people would know where to eat and what hotels/motels were friendly to blacks. I was born in Arkansas and though I never really lived there my parents took us there every summer for vacation. I had never heard of it.

The Green Book

I’m glad there’s no need for such a book anymore but I know race relations have a ways to go.

Then we saw “The Upside”. It’s funny, sad, inspirational and once again highlights a friendship between people of different races. I highly recommend it.

The friendships between the men in these movies is touching as well.

The Upside

It’s good these kinds of movies are being made. They remind us we are all people and race, religion, etc. doesn’t have to divide us.

I attend a fairly large, ninety percent white, church. We have a part-time pastor who is black. It’s not a problem for anyone. I would love for us to attract as many and as varied races as we can.

You know why?

Because that will be the closest I will get on this earth to experience what worship will truly be like in heaven.

So if you get a chance to see these movies, I urge you to see them. Don’t believe the so-called movie critics about “The Upside”. I think movies have to either be superhero movies or laced with violence, foul language, and explicit sex scenes before they get good reviews. I believe they are both rated PG-13 as well.

Anyway, I am now a movie critic.

God bless and have a good day.
