A very unusual garage sale find and a very unusual way to use it

I found this whatever it is at a garage sale. Had no idea what it was. Still don’t.

Here it is. This is the right side, with shiniest gold showing up here.

it’s a very pretty gold, not brassy looking.

So-o-o,

here’s how I ended up using it. I tried it this way first.

But the I turned it over and here’s what I finally decided on.

I really like it this way.

What do you think?

And by the way, Does anyone know what it is?

We are headed to Maine for a week. I have been there before and am excited about seeing it again with our nine-year-old grandson.
