If you’re facing a difficult Christmas today

This may seem like a strange post considering it’s Christmas and I do wish you all a Merry Christmas.

But I’m also very aware that Christmas isn’t great for everyone. That sometimes it’s dreaded instead of anticipated.

Sometimes we have to deal with really difficult people.

If we’re not Christians, we can tell them off and get on with it.

And sometimes even we Christains reach a point where we have no choice but to move on but only after we’ve let God work through us to the point where we can be used no more.

How many of us can say that?

Really.

That we’ve expended ourselves that much, that we’ve let God use us that much.

It’s hard to feel disrespected; it’s hard to have our feelings hurt over and over again.

But we don’t just celebrate Christmas today; we celebrate love.

Love born in a manager.

Not a grandiose, flashy love but a love so profound it can be birthed anywhere.

I am not, by anyone’s definition a meek or mild person. But I have a very, long rope.

Not because it’s natural to my disposition but because God deals severely with me when I cut my rope too short.

So I encourage you to have a long rope today. Show love till it hurts.

I am not talking about a sappy, overly-romanticized kind of love. Even Jesus didn’t demonstrate that kind of love. If you don’t believe me, read the gospels for yourselves. Jesus always spoke the truth and He never minced words. He called people out when he needed to. And yet he was the perfect example of perfect love.

Sure, it’s hard to love like that that. Sure, it hurts.

But God has been hurt (yes, the Bible clearly teaches that God’s feelings can be hurt) more from our behavior than we ever will from anyone else.

Be an example of that humble love born so long ago.

God bless and I hope you have a good day.
