Studying the Bible in 7 Easy Steps.

Studying the Bible is a rewarding and enlightening experience. I wrote this post for the new believer because Bible study can feel overwhelming. Here are some steps you can take to learn more about the Bible.

Start with the basics

Many people begin with the Gospels, which are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, because they’re easier to understand. The Psalms help us pray, and Proverbs teaches good common sense. The book of Acts is good because it follows the resurrection of Christ and the beginnings of the church.

Books I recommend

So, the order I suggest is Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Next, or in addition, Psalms and Proverbs.

Finally, The Old Testament in a paraphrased edition.

Use a Bible study guide

Many study guides are available online or in bookstores to help you study the Bible more effectively. These guides provide explanations and insights into the different parts of the Bible. I like this app, preceptsaustin.org. It is a huge app and has just about everything you need.

But you don’t have to take notes just starting out. For now, you can just read but I hope you will eventually use one because they are a great tool.

Join a Bible study group

Being part of a group can be beneficial, as it offers opportunities for discussion, sharing of opinions and ideas, and support. Look for a group in your community or church. It doesn’t have to be a big group. It can be just one other person.

Attend Bible seminars or workshops

Seminars and workshops provide opportunities to learn more about the Bible and discuss it with experts and others interested in learning as well. You can find these online as well. I highly suggest the Christian Leaders Institute.org. It’s free as well.

I have completed several courses already on my way to earn my Christian Life Coach degree.

Take notes

Taking notes is an effective way to reinforce what you have learned and help you retain the information. There are also many templates on Pinterest you can find. Here’s one of mine.

Strangely, though, I am using a very simple one now because I’m studying a lot for my newest book.

Set aside time for Bible study.

Set aside a specific time every day or every week to study the Bible. Devote your full attention to it during this time. I study daily, but that’s not possible for everyone. Some people might find they have to find a concentrated block of time on the weekend. Don’t feel guilty if you can’t read every day but, ask God to open up some time daily. He will.

Ask God for Guidance

If you are having difficulty understanding a certain part of the Bible, ask for guidance from a pastor or other religious leader. But you can find many answers on-line. I would only use reliable sites, such as Precepts Austin.org, Blue Letter Bible, Bible Gateway, and J. Vernon McGee. I’m sure there are many others.

By following these steps above, you can gain deeper insights into the Bible and appreciate its teachings even more. Happy studying!

God bless and have a great day.
