Snowflakes, apple cake, and a cocoa bar. Oh my.

I found some interesting things (and ideas) on the web over the week that I’d like to share with you.

I was looking for a good tutorial for making wooden snowflakes. Some were quite complicated but this one was really simple and used popsicle sticks. Now that’s nothing new but these were quite large. Plus, the young man that demonstrates his process is so sweet.

And then there is this apple cake. My husband was coming home from hunting so I thought it would be great if he smelled something good when he walked in the house. I had some apples I needed to use up so I searched Pinterest for a good recipe. Can I just say, this is an amazing cake.

However, I want to add a few things about this recipe.

  • I cut the sugar down (in the cake recipe) to 1& 1/2 cups. I did this because I knew the frosting was going to be very rich.
  • Also, check the cake at about thirty minutes. Mine was done by then.
  • My frosting didn’t seem to be thick enough even though I followed the directions precisely. So instead of continuing to beat it, I used a fork, made some holes in the cake and spread it on so it would run into the cake a little. Makes it even moister.

This is a dense cake. It’s rich without tasting overly sweet. I have no idea what kind of apples I used. If they had been tart, I might have needed all the sugar.

I’m going to make it again for Thanksgiving.

And then for Christmas, there’s this. Isn’t this the cutest ever? I love some of the concoctions she has come up with. Be sure to check it out. Plus, I love all the “chippiness” of it.

I just have to do this or at least make sure my daughter does.

Sometimes I don’t find a lot but this week I was on a roll.

Hope you enjoyed this.

God bless and have a good day.
