This will make you laugh
My daughter, who is nuttier about the Christmas season than even I, told me a story I wanted to share with you.
She is really into the whole paying it forward thing-especially during the holiday season. (She started a little early today.)
Tuesday’s she treats herself to a Chia drink on her way to work. (Here’s a great recipe for a pumpkin spiced chia latte.)
We were chatting on the phone as we do every morning, and she said to me, “I think I’ll start my “pay it forward” today
“That’s nice”, I replied.
I could hear her ask the drive-through window assistant what the car behind her had ordered. (I mean you don’t have to pay for a full breakfast, right?)
I heard my daughter say, “Oh, just two plain coffees? That’s good. I can handle that.”
She finished her business and started to move forward when I heard her say, “Oh, my gosh! Did I just pay for coffee for someone driving a Mercedes?”
I howled. That was kind of funny.
But then I remembered saying something to my mom years ago when I balked about buying a present for someone because they were “well-to-do.”
My mom was indignant and showered me with a few harsh words as to “What did that have to do with anything anyway?”
She was so right. Besides:
It isn’t about the recipient. It’s about the giver. We are the ones who benefit the most.
We don’t give presents because someone needs them anyway. We give presents to show people we care and no matter how wealthy one is, that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t appreciate the kindness.
Besides, most of us in the United States are wealthy compared to ninety percent of the world’s population.
“He owns the cattle on a thousand hills,” and yet God delights in every gift of love and devotion we give back to him.
