Short-term decisions pave the way for long-term success.

Today, I’m writing about short-term decisions because I’m afraid I didn’t get around to writing the post I wanted to write.

My routine now

My foot needed more elevating and icing yesterday. I’m determined to do all the right things and to have another stellar post-op visit. Having foot surgery has a more difficult recovery time because of the non-weight-bearing restrictions. I try to do a few things, but I have to be so careful, so I don’t accidentally tip over.

This is an old house, and there’s been an addition where the bathroom is, and it’s on a level two steps down. So that’s why I stayed upstairs the entire first week; I couldn’t manage the two steps. When I was told last week that I could use my heel to navigate those steps, that made all the difference.

What I do now is stay upstairs until I have my devotions and get cleaned up. It’s a two-story house, so I only go down and up the stairs once a day. Coming down is easy because I use my heel, but going up is a lot harder. I flop into bed at night.

Having said all that, I’m so grateful my insurance covered this surgery. I’m well aware of how fortunate I am in this regard. I thank God for the opportunity to fix the foot so I can have many more “walking” years. So many people continue to suffer and eventually end up negatively impacting their quality of life. Some would not have chosen to have this surgery. I chose to do so because I want a better quality of life in the future.

Sometimes, you have to make a tough decision for the short-term so you can have what you want for the long term.

Short-term decisions

I write a lot about choices, and short-term decisions are choices, aren’t they? It’s easy to make easy decisions. Hard decisions are another thing altogether. This was not an easy decision for me to make because I knew what the recovery would be like having been here four times before. But in each case, it bought me more years of walking. I just have to be patient and do what I need to do, even though I hate resting. I have a high energy level. My poor husband.

But I’ve also had lots of time to think, read my Bible, etc. That part has been very good. I haven’t gotten to the second book yet, but I feel like I’m right on track.

All of this today is just to encourage you if you are facing a difficult decision. God’s word has many verses that use the word wisdom. He promises wisdom when we ask for it, James 1:5 being the most familiar. And the book of Proverbs is full of wisdom verses. Just don’t limit yourself to the word “wisdom” alone.

I hope you have a great day today. God bless each of you. I truly mean that.
