Weed-free. When You Feel Like A Weed, not a sturdy tree.

Table of Contents

Weed-free living should be our goal. I want to be spiritually weed-free but today I feel like a weak, wilted weed. And after that post yesterday! But that’s what happens when you let your routine get messed up. For trees to remain strong, they need to be regularly fed and watered. Now, while I have been reading God’s word and praying, it’s kind of been scattered. Ever been there?

Routine matters if you want to be weed-free

My husband and I were talking about how we’d gotten lazy with our routine. I mean who wants to get up at six if they don’t have to? Well, it’s us. We don’t like to feel rushed or distracted with our time with God, but we have for the last few weeks. We’ve been back and forth to our cabin and our daughter’s. We got out of sync. We both agreed today that this has to stop. So as of tomorrow, we’re back on schedule.

Trees can’t grow sturdy with haphazard feeding and watering. A quick dose now and then just doesn’t cut it. That’s why God uses a tree for an example of what it means to be blessed. Blessedness comes from a certain amount of predictability and structure. Trees go strong because of regular watering and feeding. Us, too.

We become vulnerable when we are not weed-free.

There is a danger when we ignore our time with God. And even though we can connect with God during chaotic times, those times should be when we face a crisis not due to our own sloppy scheduling.

I felt more vulnerable. I felt like I was flaying and not anchored to the shore. And this brings me to this. How are you going to manage the Holiday season? Is your time with God still going to be the priority it has always been or are you going to get sloppy? So how do we assure this doesn’t happen? Or can we? Of course, we can.

Nothing more important than time with God

Schedule your time.

Scheduling a specific time for prayer or connecting with God can be a meaningful way to ensure that we dedicate sufficient attention to our spiritual practices. Life can undoubtedly get busy and overwhelming, but by setting aside a designated time slot for spiritual reflection, we demonstrate our commitment and make it a priority in our daily lives.

While it’s unrealistic to expect that we can always adhere strictly to our schedule, simply the act of scheduling itself can serve as a reminder and motivator to keep God at the forefront of our thoughts and actions. It allows us to intentionally carve out moments for contemplation, meditation, worship, or any other religious practices that we may follow.

Scheduling can be a means to place God on the front burner of our lives. Remember, regardless of how busy life gets, having that intentional time set aside for connecting with God can bring immense peace, strength, and clarity to our journey.

Track it.

Track it as casually as you want but do track it. You will find that your day goes much better because you consciously put God first. Integrating the practice of prioritizing your relationship with God into your daily routine can bring immense peace and clarity. Even if there are days when you may have struggled to put God first, don’t worry!

Spiritual well-being keeps us weed-free.

In our fast-paced world, finding balance and making time for our spiritual well-being can be a challenge. However, by incorporating routine and structure into our lives through scheduling, we create space for our faith to thrive. Even if we occasionally deviate from our schedule, the effort we put into organizing our time reflects our dedication and commitment to maintaining a strong connection with our spiritual beliefs.

So before you go to sleep, take a moment to talk to God. Reflect on your day, seek His guidance, and ask for His help in developing a schedule that aligns with your spiritual goals. By entrusting your challenges and concerns to Him, you allow Him to guide you towards a schedule that not only accommodates your practical responsibilities but also nurtures your spiritual growth. Remember, God is always there to support you and help you find balance in every aspect of your life to be weed-free.

We can talk to God about our weeds

Isn’t it funny who we think there are only certain things we can talk to God about? But there isn’t anything we can’t “discuss” with him. Yesterday, I was working on getting a Draft2Digital book into soft cover. I’ve done everything exactly as I should, but there is still a formatting error I can’t get corrected. I spent hours on it. But still, it’s not right. In the meantime I put a roast in the oven that got overcooked because I was stressed about the other and didn’t think it through. When I was ready to throw the computer at the wall, I remembered how my morning had gone.

Would I have figured it out if I hadn’t rushed through my time with God this morning? Not necessarily. But I wouldn’t have felt so stressed about it.

Weed-free living

Put God first

We engage in weed-free living when we put God first even if it’s a struggle at times. In a world filled with distractions and temptations, keeping our focus on God can be challenging. It requires consistently making choices that align with our faith and values.

By carving out moments to spend with Him, whether it’s through prayer, meditation, or simply being still, we create an environment that allows us to grow spiritually and connect more deeply with our faith. We keep our lives weed-free.

In this fast-paced world, finding time to listen to God may seem challenging, but it is vital for our well-being. Sometimes all it takes is a few quiet moments in our day to tune out the noise around us and tune in to His voice. When we take the time to listen, we open ourselves up to receive His wisdom and direction.

Make better choices

Engaging in weed-free living doesn’t mean we will never face difficulties or challenges. However, when we prioritize our relationship with God, we find strength, comfort, and guidance to navigate through life’s ups and downs. We cultivate a mindset that aligns with His teachings and principles, enabling us to make choices that honor Him and benefit ourselves and those around us.

Remember, weed-free living is not about perfection or having it all figured out. It’s a commitment to continuously seek God’s presence, invite Him into our daily lives, and strive to live according to His will. As we grow in our spiritual journey and deepen our relationship with Him, we find that staying close to God brings peace, joy, and fulfillment that surpasses all understanding.

Prioritize your time

Make it a priority to spend time with God, even if it’s just a few quiet moments each day keeps our lives weed-free. By doing so, we will experience the beauty of weed-free living and discover the transformative power of His love and grace in our lives.

When we prioritize God in our lives, we are actively seeking His guidance and allowing His teachings to shape our thoughts, actions, and decisions. This means inviting Him into every aspect of our lives, not just during times of struggle or uncertainty. It means seeking His wisdom and relying on His strength to overcome challenges.

Not always easy

Choosing weed-free living is not always easy. There will be times when we face struggles, temptations, and setbacks. However, by putting God first, we tap into His strength and grace to help us overcome these challenges. We find comfort in knowing that we are not alone in our journey towards a wholesome and fulfilling life.

Remember Psalm 1

Putting God first can bring a sense of peace and purpose to our lives. It reminds us that our ultimate goal is to live in accordance with His will. It helps us resist the pressures of the world that may lead us down paths contrary to our beliefs.

When we prioritize weed-free living, we strive to cultivate a mindset and lifestyle that is free from harmful influences. Remember, Psalm one, says a blessed person avoids wrong influences. This can include avoiding negative habits, toxic relationships, and destructive behaviors. Instead, we choose to surround ourselves with positive influences that uplift and inspire us.

Weeds can overtake everything

If we let weeds continue to grow, they eventually take over a garden, the garden a metaphor for our spiritual well-being. Neglecting God for any length of time lets the weeds of life choke our faith and diminish our joy in his presence.

Embrace the call to weed-free living by constantly turning your hearts and minds towards God, much like we till the soil to give plants the right environment to grow. Through prayer, studying His Word, and living out our faith, we can navigate life’s complexities and experience the joy and peace that come from a life centered on God.

Get rid of those weeds! Your weeds are different than mine. Identify what they are and pull them up by the roots!

God bless and have a great day.
