Are you afraid to pray?

I had a different post ready for today but am changing it up at this very last minute.

I have a series of posts coming out in a couple of weeks about prayer.

I just want to say today that it is such a privilege to be able to pray. Especially for other people.

But here’s the thing, while God does hear every prayer, there are conditions in prayer and in particular praying for the needs of others. I”ve pretty much immersed myself in this subject lately because of some promptings from God that maybe I wasn’t praying in accordance with His will all the time. Often, instead of praying for His will to be accomplished, I have prayed that He relieves the painful struggles some are going through. These may or may not be synonymous, depending on the situation.

It is imperative we pray for God’s will to be done. And I think I know why we don’t and even when we do, we are only giving it lip service.

WE ARE AFRAID.

Think about it. If we were to really mean for God’s will to be done in someone’s life, it just might mean more hardship, more struggles, more pain. And who wants that? When we pray “Your will be done.”, that’s a really big thing. It’s not be prayed lightly.

I’m as guilty here, (maybe more so) than anyone. I’m afraid of that as well. We want our loved ones to have joyful, peace-filled lives. Selfishly, it’s better for us, too. We don’t want them to face up to some hard truths. WE don’t want to face up to some hard truths.

And yet, they must. We must.

Anyway, this is just a little “prompt” for all of us today when we engage in prayer.

Exactly what do we want and exactly how does that square with what the Bible clearly teaches?

More in few weeks.

God bless and have a good day.
