This statement really gripped me.

I don’t know where I read this nor where I heard it but it struck a responsive chord with me.

God is a God of comfort passing us paper tissues as we cry out.

I love that image. It reminds me of this verse:

faith, depression, inspirational

I might like it better if it said said while He’s passing out kleenex, He’s also taking away what caused me to cry in the first place. But I know that neither God nor life always works that way.

I know that sometimes the removal of pain requires the cooperation of others whom may not feel like cooperating with God’s plan. Plus, life can present challenges all on its own.

While this might not square with verses that state God will answer our prayers if we pray in faith believing, and while I do believe that, it doesn’t say anything about God’s timing. Let’s face it, when we are struggling, we just want to feel better immediately, even though we didn’t get depressed immediately.

But isn’t it a comforting picture to imagine God sitting right next to you, holding you and passing out tissues?

faith, depression, encouragement

The next time you are truly feeling awful and depression has you in its vice, paint this picture in your mind and find comfort knowing God is there.

God bless you today.
