What happened between Good Friday and Easter.

Good Friday and Easter and the events in between.

The events between Good Friday and Easter are recorded in Matthew 27:62-66, Luke 23:56, and John 19:40.

Pilate was worried.

One of the most significant things that happened was that Pilate was worried there would be an uprising should someone steal the body, so he made sure the tomb was made secure.

Little did he know that he was validating the story for generations to come and making the miracle even more miraculous.

God certainly works in a mysterious way.

But there were other things going on.

(I should add some scholars believe Christ ascended to hell on this day to finish the atonement for the forgiveness of our sins. )

First of all, there was mourning.

No one really believed what Christ had taught. As far as they were concerned, it was all over. And that includes e disciples.

They were grieving. The disciples gave up everything to follow Jesus. They loved Him. Just as we grieve, so did they. If you’ve ever lost someone, you know what the day after a funeral is like. You’re just kind of lost. There is a numbness. That’s how the disciples probably felt, totally discouraged, totally confused, and in shock.

I would imagine there was a lot of discussion about how they could have gotten it all wrong. But they didn’t understand. They probably discussed the sermons Jesus gave, the miracles, and trying to put it all together.

They were also probably afraid.

After all, Jesus’s life had caused a lot of controversies. Jesus encouraged allegiance to Himself rather than the Roman government. He caused a lot of trouble, and the disciples publicly agreed. There could be facing retaliation.

What might have happened.

Maybe He hovered over Mary Magdalene, enveloping her with loving comfort. When a soft breeze ruffled His mother’s, she did a double-take, knowing it was Her son.

Maybe He checked in on the woman caught in adultery to see how she was doing? Had she taken His forgiveness and departed from her old life?

Maybe he reminded Peter through the words of another disciple that He had been forgiven for his denials in case Peter was worried.

We just don’t really know, but I believe Saturday was an active day for Jesus.

For me, I am comforted knowing that God wasn’t silent. He was planning for the biggest event in history. Maybe Jesus returned to heaven to rejoice with His Father, the angels, and all who had gone on before.

God is always working, whether it’s Good Friday or Easter

God is working for us.

And just as our triune God was working behind the scenes, so he is working behind the scenes in your life. They are working to equip and encourage you as you deal with your depression.

We must never assume that when God seems silent, it means He isn’t there. But there are times and He lets us take some steps on our own. Babies all need to learn to walk without mom and dad hanging on to them every minute.

That’s one of the questions I intend to ask.

God bless, and have a good day.
