bare feet boy child couch/hiding

When you want to hide, I have some good news for you. But first, we all feel like that sometimes, don’t we? It’s not that we’re particularly upset; it’s just that there’s so much on our plate. And it’s not all dessert, either. I’d be OK with that. And it’s not that it’s all broccoli, either. (I don’t like broccoli at all.) It’s just we feel the need to draw back for a time.

So what’s the good news?

I’m following Christ’s journey in my Bible study this week. I have a timeline that tells what Christ did each day. It’s been fascinating. Today was a particularly busy day in HIs life.

He taught in the temple all day. He didn’t just teach but was also questioned a lot by those that were trying to trip Him up as well as those with genuine interest.

John 12:36b states: “These things Jesus spoke, and He went away and hid from them.”

Do you know how many times I have probably read that verse and flew past it without paying attention to the fact that Jesus did what He did?

I knew that Jesus often took time to be by Himself, but I think this is the only reference to hiding. I check it out in my Strong’s concordance to see if maybe it meant something else in the original Greek. But, no, it means just what it says, no qualifying explanation, no derivative of another word.

Jesus hid.

I had an experience a number of years ago that shows how hiding might be necessary sometimes.

My husband was having open-heart surgery after having a heart attack that is often referred to as “The Widow Maker.” I had been in the ER when he quit breathing and watched as they used the paddles on him. It was terrible.

Anyway, all the family was in the waiting room and they weren’t doing anything wrong. But it was just too much. I left and found the chapel and hid for a while. I knew what I needed to do for myself and I didn’t hesitate to do it.

I knew I had to hide.

So, if you find yourself where I was and you need to hide, take some time and do just that. You can hide anywhere, even if it’s only in your head.

God bless and have a good day.

  1. That is AMAZING! I had never noticed that before. What a wonderfully freeing verse.
And your commentary – I have been there. Good to see it is okay sometimes to hide.
