LIFE

Alphabet of thanks “L”

(For some reason, this didn’t post. So am posting it now.)

Today I’m thankful for the concept of “lazy”.  However it’s not what you think. It’s not because I have much experience with laziness. That’s precisely the point. I wish I were-lazier I mean.

We are experiencing an unexpected snowstorm with accumulations of about four-to seven inches.

This is totally out of the norm, even for Michigan. So this morning I thought, “Hey, why don’t I put my coffee in a thermos and bring it up to the bedroom, look at some magazines, drink my coffee, and start the day slowly”?

Of course, that didn’t happen.  I started thinking about all the projects I had on my list that had to be crossed off by the end of the day.

After all, lists are what keep me going. Oops, maybe I should change course because “lists” starts with “L”, too. But I’ll stick with laziness.

I have friends who tell me that every once in awhile they have a “pajama” day. They keep their pajamas on the whole day and spend the day leisurely.

I never have.

I do remember a day last year that I woke up not feeling good, feeling crummy in fact.  The weather was gloomy and nothing was too pressing so I gathered together my favorite junk food, decided to catch up on an entire TV series and pretty much blew away most of the day. I totally indulged myself. I was totally bored by the end of the day.

But I was sick so that doesn’t count, does it?

I have little tolerance for lazy people. Never have.

Lazy people (I’m talking “habitually” lazy) take advantage of other people’s industriousness.

Lazy people complain and are resentful when they don’t have what other’s have even though their own laziness is the cause.

I haven’t mentioned depression during this month of thankfulness. (Of course, you didn’t expect me to, did you?) But there is a connection between laziness and depression. Stay with me here.

Laziness can lead to chaos, and chaos can be a trigger if you struggle with depression. Therapists and experts are pretty much in agreement here. Chaos can cause us to feel stressed and anxious. This is definitely not helpful if you’re prone to depression.

But even with that being true, there are times we would all do better if we lightened up and took a day off. Life doesn’t always have to be a to do list. Some days we absolutely should choose laziness. It’s good to give ourselves a break. So today I’m thankful for the few days when I choose laziness.

Of course, that’s going to be after Christmas. 🙂

God bless and I hope you have a good day.
