DIY/table

This set of pictures shows how one can  take a $1.00 table and re-do, and re-do and re-do. But first the back story.

I bought this table about ten years ago at a church rummage sale. The top doesn’t even belong to the bottom. The bottom is an old sewing machine table and the top looks like it might be from a dresser. It’s not even attached. When I spotted it I knew it had the right “bones”.

I think it was just stained when I bought it. The first set of pictures shows how I refinished it. I wish I had taken a close-up of the top because I had painted a very subtle harlequin pattern that barely showed through. (I love painting furniture and giving it my own special touches. I’ve sold a couple on e-BAY and given away a number of small pieces for family and friends.)

Anyway, I decided about two years ago to paint it a solid red. For some reason, the Christmas picture is the only one I have of it. You can see it at the end of the dining room table. I didn’t like it from the beginning. Don’t know why because I love red accent pieces.

Finally, a couple of days ago, I said,  “This is it. I’m painting it.” So I got out my favorite Painters Touch Heirloom White Spray Paint and after merely wiping the table down, I went at it. There was a reason I didn’t take great care. After one coat, I let it dry and started sanding to expose the red paint underneath. I absolutely love how it turned it, especially where the sanding exposed the red paint.

I will never understand why people spend so much on furniture when re-doing pieces is so much fun.  I’m always in the process of painting something so I’ll be sharing more later.   My family knows the best Christmas gift they can give me is spray paint!
