Why Discretion and Understanding Are Essential To Guard Your Heart
Proverbs 2:10–11

When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you. Understanding will keep you.
Notice where wisdom lands. Not just your mind. Your heart. Not just your intellect. Your soul. This isn’t a stack of facts filed away for later. It’s something that changes how you actually feel moving through the world. Solomon uses one simple word for it: pleasant. Wisdom, once it takes root, doesn’t feel like a burden. It feels like relief.
Isn’t that the truth? Most of us hate ambiguity. We do better with answers. It does feel like relief.
Then come the bodyguards, discretion, and understanding. These bodyguards are quiet. Discretion doesn’t announce itself. It just keeps you from walking into a mess you’ll regret later. Understanding doesn’t show off. It just helps you see what’s actually in front of you before you react.
Wisdom doesn’t only inform us. It protects us. Quietly. From the inside.
Have you ever looked back at a decision and thought, ” Something in me just knew not to go there? That was probably this. Discretion, doing its unglamorous work. We need to listen more because discretion is a quiet voice but one of the most important ones.

Pray: Lord, let wisdom take root in my heart, not just my head. Let discretion and understanding stand guard over my life today, even in the small, unnoticed moments. Amen.
