How To Find True Wisdom. It’s A Treasure Hunt.

Proverbs 2:1–5:

My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
indeed, if you call out for insight
    and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.

Post 1: Wisdom Isn’t Found by Accident. It’s A Treasure Hunt.

Solomon doesn’t waste any time here. He tells his son exactly what to do. He sends him on a treasure hunt.
“Receive my words.”

“Treasure my commands.”

“Cry out for insight.”

“Search for it like it’s hidden silver.”

Then, he says, at the end of the treasure hunt, you’ll understand the fear of the Lord. You’ll find the knowledge of God.

If-Then

Did you catch that? It’s an if-then. If you seek, then you’ll find. Wisdom doesn’t just show up. It’s not going to fall into your lap while you’re scrolling your phone. You have to go looking for it.

Solomon compares it to hunting for buried treasure. Think about that for a second. Nobody finds treasure by accident. You have to dig. And you don’t stop after the first shovel of dirt turns up nothing.

My own struggles with this.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve prayed for clarity before and felt like God went quiet. Verses 6 and 7 tell us wisdom comes from the Lord. He’s the source. But look at everything before that. All that seeking, searching, and digging? That’s on us.

God doesn’t hide wisdom from people who really want it. But “really wanting it” has to look like something. It’s more than hoping it shows up someday.

If you’ve ever walked through an anxious season, or a depressed one, this should encourage you. The fog doesn’t get the last word.

There’s a simple habit here, one you can repeat: open the Word, ask for insight, keep asking.

That’s it.

That’s how you put yourself right in the path of God’s wisdom.

Reflect: Where are you hoping wisdom will just show up, instead of going after it? What would “crying out for insight” actually look like this week?

Pray: Lord, You are the source of everything good and wise. Teach me not to sit back and wait for clarity. Teach me to seek You the way I’d search for treasure. Guard my heart and my steps this week. Keep me on the path that leads to You. Amen.

God bless and have a great week.
