LIFE

Alphabet of thanks, “F”

 F, for “future”

future

(Btw, last year I included husbands, children, grandchildren, friends, parents, under the appropriate letter, so didn’t include them this year .)

When I think of the future, the concept of “hope” is always present. Hope that a cure will be found for Down Syndrome, cancer, Alzheimers.

The future holds such promise. The promise of change, of better days. That starvation will be eliminated, poverty a thing of the past, women’s rights extended to all countries, no more genocide, etc.

But sometimes the future, because it is in the future, can seem never to arrive. The future holds a carrot on a string for us but the string seems to keep moving, always out of our grasp.

For me, when I think about the future it encourages me to make good choices in the present. Trust me, I don’t always. Some days I fail miserably and behave in ways that pretty much guarantee tomorrow is not going to present me with as many choices as I would like.

For example, if I don’t exercise today, tomorrow means I might not feel as well. And then when I go, it might be even harder. Also, my food choices might be limited, which I really don’t like.

Of course, the future can also be frightening. Loss of a loved one, prolonged illness, unemployment, all these present challenges for the future.

But the future always holds options. I like options. (Hope I remember this word for the “O” day.)

God bless and I hope you have a good day.
