1. Proverbs 3: Bind Kindness and Truth Around Your Neck
Proverbs 3:1–4
My son, don’t forget my teaching; but let your heart keep my commandments: for length of days, and years of life, and peace, will they add to you. Don’t let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor, and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
Solomon opens with a plea. Don’t forget what I’ve taught you. Keep my commands close.
Why does he care so much? Because these things add to your life. Length of days. Years of life. Peace.
Then he gets specific. Bind kindness and truth around your neck. Write them on your heart, like they’re carved in.
Picture that for a second.
Jewelry you wear every day.
Words carved somewhere permanent.
Solomon isn’t talking about knowing these things. He’s talking about wearing them.
Kindness and truth don’t get much attention. Nobody’s throwing a party for the person who just… shows up. Keeps their word. Stays. But that’s exactly what holds a marriage together. A friendship. A walk with God.
Do this, Solomon says, and you’ll find favor and good understanding. The kind God sees, not just the kind that looks good from the outside.
I want that. Don’t you?
Kindness and truth aren’t things you have. They’re things you put on every single day on purpose.
Reflect: Where could you use a little more kindness and truth this week?
Pray: Lord, write Your commands on my heart. Not just in my head, but woven into who I am. Let kindness and truth be things people notice about me. Amen.
